2:00 Thursdays - Ballroom Dance Classes for healthy seniors, people with Parkinson's, MS and other neurological disorders
Each Thursday at 2 PM Terry Dean teaches Ballroom for healthy seniors, people with Parkinson's, MS and other nuero disorders, and their partners. The American Parkinson's Disease Association's (APDA) sponsored research has shown that ballroom dancing benefits balance and mobility in Parkinson's. The local APDA referral and resource center (located at UVA Health System) has worked hard to provide this class and let people know about it.
Now, in a NEW development, we are partnering with the Blue Ridge Chapter of the MS Society to offer this class to those with MS as well!
Ballroom dancing also provides fun interaction for spouses or other partners, something not connected with the "caregiving mode". Click on the links to the right to see local TV new coverage of our class, including interviews with the dancers! We've also included a link to an interview with one of the clinical study supervisors.
Click here to read an article on the physical and mental health benefits of dancing as well as fighting memory loss, calorie counts and more!
Post your questions and discussion topics here.
Terry Dean's Ballroom Dance Studio invites participants in the Parkinson's and MS class to share their tips and experiences with others.
Welcome to Terry Dean's forum on MS and Dancing. Feel free to post your comments on the dance class, offer your tips to others with MS, and provide feedback on the class!
